Oceans In Time
Aging Black Panthers were prowling in town publicly proclaiming their audacious armed rebel youth as misunderstood social work.
Huey's widow is now hawking Burn Baby Burn hot sauce as social progress and copyrighting the name.
I'm staring over uncaring oceans waiting for a ship, that black freighter, with guns on the bow, to make appropriate political criticism.
--- Day In The Life -- Judy was energetically gardening. She has our back deck and yard looking perfect. Even she is momentarily satisfied. A couple of "You don't need a Weatherman" type folks, who are great old friends will be visiting tonight. They are passing through town. We checked out a restaurant tip on a southern style eatery named Bernies Bistro. It's great. The fried food is not over fried, the okra is fantastic and you must eat the black eyed peas.
The Bush trickeration is to gradually accumulate fascism by making it part of the America's routine. The bit by bit building of tyranny. If they succeed, even the NY Times editorial writers will take it all for granted (or else). ------ Le Divorce - A fine French-American flick about one American sister getting a Parisian style divorce and the other one (a visitor) having an affair with the brother of her estranged husband. The film examines the cultural conflicts that exist between the French and the Americans, somewhat to the advantage of the Yanks. The film isn't exactly a comedy or a tragedy, perhaps it is subtle farce. Fortunately for all concerned, Paris is still beautiful and the food is absolutely splendid. You pretty much like everybody in the film except the divorcing husband but he does get his just desserts and its not served with cream. Kate Hudson is fun as the visiting sister. The scene where the expensive red purse floats over Paris reminds us of the classic Red Balloon.

Fashion Show And Tell
The reason for executing an olive skin guy on the Underground, cause he was wearing a big baggy jacket on a sweltering summer's day. Who but a mass murderer would make such a fashion misstatement?
But he wasn't really wearing such a garment he was dressed in appropriate summery fashion.
The reason for executing an olive skin guy? He's an olive skin guy. ---
Day In The Life-- I introduced former Black Panther "Big Man" at an all Panther (except me) event at the Clinton St. Theater. Big Man was an original member of the Party and a brave cool guy who took on and did a very good job with an incredible number and variety of difficult Panther tasks. We all admired him, and still do.
The marquee of the Clinton, referred both to the event and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Many strains of culture and politics do get mixed up in the American brain. The hot summer night audience of 50 or 60 very interested folks and being Portland, it was mostly white. There were actually three Panther speakers and they concentrated on the various "do very good" social activities that the Party engaged in. There was lots of talk about children's breakfast programs, health clinics, job placement, free schools, etc. And not much at all on the Panther's armed monitoring of the Oakland police force and the Panther's showing up armed in California's Sacramento capitol building. Given that we live in an era of fear and the Patriot Act such an emphasis in understandable, yet the gun stuff is easily defensible, and that defense should be offered. Cops were murdering Black people all over the country, a bold and brave stand needed to be taken. The whole Black Panther story is well worth telling. And congratulations Dom on putting together another fine event. --- I was glad to see the two grease car drivers (see yesterday's blog) show up at the Clinton. They really enjoyed themselves.

Road To Nowhere
Back in space a shuttle goes and comes but why?
If we reach Mars there is no there -- there.
There aren't natural resources or a native population to exploit, and you can't write a new constitution for red dust.
Hollywood might shoot sci fi on Mars location. But a small room in Canada is more cost efficient.
Arnold already has California, so what's the point? --- Day In The Life -- Today begins the invasion of the guests. I have an ex-Black Panther coming over with Dom ---and two guys riding around on vegetable oil will also show up. It should be an interesting day. We took a walk this morning, it really was hot and it's still early in the day. -- The Republicans have become a highly disciplined right wing political organization with a mass disciplined rank and file in the evangelical Christian movement. They no longer break ranks (as they did in the Nixon impeachment) in the service of national interest. This was quite noticeable when they stole the presidential election in 2000 and now, when none of them speaks out against Karl Rove. They have become completely ruthless. When you look at the Democrat's mass base, the labor movement falling apart, the disparity political power becomes obvious.
--- Romeo & Juliet -- Leonardo DiCaprio in a very hip version of the star crossed tragedy. You want to think about mixing West Side Story and the Rocky Horror Picture Show with some very authentic Shakespeare that's set in modern times but with the old poetic language and lots of Latino macho and many gun battles. Those pistols are a story in themselves. They are ornate, enameled and quite baroque, as erotic and deadly as the love of Romeo for Juliet. The killing of Mercutio stands out. It is finally plausible and not just a great throw away scene.
One of these days someone is going to give Romeo and Juliet a happy ending. I've always thought it would make a great romantic comedy.

Vegetable Oil Is Winning
If not now when are we going back into the streets of hey hey, George W. Bush Allah's gonna kick your tush?
Hanoi Jane now returning to the outlaw trail, opposing the Iraqi War and riding in a bus powered by Crisco.
Today is July 26, a day that once brought down a tyranny, any day is a good day to rebel.
---- Day In The Life - We had an enjoyable visit from Bend friends M & B. M is an old 60's pal, at one time she was a next door Berkeley neighbor. Took a "beat the heat" early morning walk with Judy. Tomorrow two young guys traveling around in a car running on vegetable oil will interviewing me about counter communities. It should be interesting.
The Bush gang is addicted to lying. The newspapers wrote that Supreme Court nominee Roberts was a member of the secretive right wing Federalist Society (a reactionary lawyer's cabal). The Bush Administration said Roberts wasn't a member. The obedient press apologized and now it turns out that Judge Roberts was once on the DC steering committee of that organization. If you take a Bush sentence, even the word "and" will be a lie. Like in, "we are fighting a global war against terror and Iraq is part of it." -----
Sen. Rick Santorum plugging his book was interviewed last night on the Daily Show by Jon Stewart. Ricky was very tense and completely lacking in humor. Part con artist, part true believer, he really had a fascist stick up his ass.

Proof Through The Night
Bombs bursting in air, that's how America started but the Star Spangled Banner spontaneously caught fire in the attic of our minds and couldn't make the new dawn.
When all the death by terror figures are added up do the fuzzy math, we've killed more civilians destroyed more property crippled more bodies and frightened the shit out of more innocents than the very fondest Arabian Nightmares of Allah's Assassins and their Seventy Virgins of death.
---- Day In The Life -- I received a copy of the questions, I'm going to be asked when I'm interviewed in NYC for a film about John Lennon and his political run in with the Nixon administration. I was an insider to all these goings on. I also received copies of some FOIA obtained FBI files on Lennon, Yoko, Jerry Rubin and me and they are dumb to the max. In fact I've never read more misinformed FBI files -- their "informants" must have included The Stooges.
Not only was that guy the Brit police murdered on the subway not a terrorist but it turns out he wasn't even an Asian. He was a Brazilian electrician (well, at least he was third world) and his big crime was going to work. If you're getting on a subway don't wear heavy clothing, don't run for a train, don't be nervous, don't be dark skinned and please have your affairs in order.
--- GI Jane -- This is really a dramatized documentary look at the Navy's way of training its special combat SEALS but to add some spicy interest, it offers us Demi Moore as a SEAL candidate who gets the gig through the personal intervention of a powerful female US Senator. The training gets tough but Demi gets tougher and like the psycho in Taxi Driver she shaves her hair and really shows us what she can do. The film lacks plot complexity (its big double cross is on the cliche side) and the best part of the movie is when its star does one handed push ups. If you are interested in learning how our military developed a penchant for torturing, this film might offer you a few clues.
