God's Curse

His holy rolling thundering
Pat Pobertson
proclaimed Sharon got a super stroke
cause he pulled out of Gaza
disobeying a direct order
from God
to build kosher retaurants everywhere
and welcome the Messiah with a knish

I'm trying to figure out
why I have liver cancer
and I recall some harsh poems
about Preacher Man Roberstson
I may have authored here,
I'm not intimidated
I can take the heat
but you got to admit
when it comes to running wild with words
some might experience a chilling effect.

Day In The Life -- Having liver cancer is a bit like living in Alice's Wonderland (if not her restaurant). So after being told there was no worthwhile chemotherapy for my cancer, I'm now told there is a version, that might extend my life for a few years (then again there are strong odds it might do nothing but waste my energy). I'll probably start it next Friday because I'm not exactly holding high cards right now (Aces and Eight's) and if the chemo is a real sucking loser I can drop out and go back to feeling hopeless.

Yesterday gave me the world's worst afternoon but I puled my together for dinner and S & J came over with a fantastic pasta -- and we had a surprising enjoyable evening. In Alice's world things do quickly change.

Jessica will be here on Thursday -- fantastic!

Viva Zero

Delegate Zero
now on a motorcycle
he and the Zapatista gang
will travel cross Mexican country
during Presidential election
running for nothing
but the truth and nothing but the truth
about politics and capitalism,

Better join the grand tour
the guy is smart and funny
and he's not trying to con you
out of life savings
or wash your brains,
just want your hear the basic beginning of freedom.
Capitalism sucks!

Day In The Life - I slept the whole afternoon. I guess I was making up for the night I had to sleep sitting up. One thing about my diagnosis of level 4 liver cancer -- since I received it, the doctors have been consistent, the news is all bad. One thing I've picked up is that a lot of the official medical information on Hep C is wrong --you can get cancer at a much earlier stage of Hep C and that in general the doctors don't use the medical technology appropriate to locating possible cancer.

Judy and I watched Princess Mononoke-- a splendid piece of Japanese animation about a war for control of the forests between humans, animals and sprits. It's great stuff and we really fell for the super sized silver wolves.

Health Update -- I did get to that liver surgeon after all, He didn't have any good news. It a 95% possibility that my cancer has spread. So surgery is ruled out unless the almost impossible turns out to be true. We were advised not to hope for that. So basically I have incurable, inoperable liver cancer that will kill me. But when? The surgeon didn't know and talked of cases of people living on for years. Nobody really knows why but some folks are strong holdout's against buying the farm. And I am an urban type. If anyone knows of experimental work being done with Level 4 liver cancer please let us know. Note, this isn't about cancer in general or even liver cancer - but Level 4 liver cancer. Life goes on, I have my strong loves, involvements and values. I intend on living my life.

Doin' As I Please

Sharon could break all the rules
and live a happy life.
In a collective farming country
he owned his own land,
could also be involved in cruelty and lies,
corruption and war crimes,
be denounced by his own courts and commissions
and still be cheered as a rough tough
courageous man of peace
who could start his private political party
and create his private country.

But he couldn't get away eating
everything on the menu.
He was very fat
he got much fatter
and a deadly bomb exploded in his brain

It wasn't placed there by an Arab.

Day In The Life -- I got drained again by the doctors. This time, it hurt less and we got more out (over three litters). My liver causes my abdomen to swell up and put pressure on my lungs. Draining really does help me feel better and breath much easier.

Great news -- Jessica is in her top 5% in law school, She phoned the news in yesterday while we were in the doctor's office and it made Judy and I feel great in a very harsh situation..Thanks kid.

Health News Update --My appointment with the liver surgeon has been postponed till Friday. My abdomen just got badly swollen last night. Because breathing was difficult I spent the night sitting up and sleeping in the living room. I'll get my abdomen drained today and feel a lot better for the Friday appointment.

Vestigial Structure

What does Congress do
when Dubya has eaten their Constutional powers
and all their time is being used up
explaining to grand juries
why Indian tribes unknowingly
built them mansion and bought them yachts.

Maybe some neo-conartist
has a timely legal theory
that the President can completely abolish Congress
when it's energies are over occupied
rasing bail?

There must be
a pre rehearsed ciizen's group
willing to take up the challenging task.

Nature of Things

Don't believe a word they say
you contain all joy hope and wild spirit of God
running through your trees and sunsets
they bring tools, plans, drills and conspiracies
to make you small, profitable and practical,
flood them out and drown them in deep seas
of forgetfulness
when they do not go hard core ice cube in their fancy frozen apartments.
Remember you are forever
containing all bounty of becoming
and their life lasts only
as long
as a lie is believed.

Day In The Life. - I was really feeling out of it, very low energy sick, and then AL came by and applied some hand and foot massage and somehow it woke me up. I wasn't feeling great - just really ordinary sick but that was much preferable to the horrible way the day started out. She will be a regular Wednesday visitor. I see the surgeon tomorrow and get drained again on Thursday. Draining is a temporary way of helping me feel better by getting excess fluid out of my abdomen. Boy have I go a diverse bunch praying for me including atheists, hippies, Christian Serb Orthodox, Roman Catholics various varieties of Jewish and Bhudust ways and my Moslem friends. What a mix.

We saw Girl In A Cafe, (tipped by DT), a really odd Brit flick where a shy by likable civil servant picks up this mysterious woman in a London Cafe and takes her to Reykjavik Iceland where the G8 Summit is taking place. Much to everyone's
surprise in addition to becoming the shy civil servant's lover she also becomes his conscience as a spokesmen for the poor. The film develops in a careful way that make you care as much about the characters and their growing love as the film's over all progressive political statement. The cameras also provides some beautiful portraits of Iceland when there isn't so much ice.

A Choice

Bush is running a referendum on his
are we there yet fascism?
Fixing elections, starting wars with lies
turning neighbors into snitches
librarians into cops
buying the media and killing the unobtainable
now he proclaims even the Patriot Act
is too burdensome for his regime.
He isn't even bound to its
pretend protections.
If he's not impeached, he's Duce
forever strutting the rodeo circuit
every year's best cowboy
just look at his fancy belt
and he even hates horses.

Day In The Life -- We went out last night to a friends house. The food was great the atmosphere deliciously hospitable. But I woke up this morning felling so sick I wondered who I was. An extra hour of sleep has somewhat restored my identity. I don't know how to act, if I stay home and get bored I get nutty, but if I go out and have a good time there is a price to pay. Maybe the surgeon on Wednesday will have some good advice.

I keep getting warm and loving e-mails from friends and even some strangers they really do make me feel better.

We saw The Aviator again. What an amazing story. Howard Hughes was such an adventurous inventive, energetic and creative guy -- and some combination of mental illness, government persecution, a weird mother and physical damage turned him into a crazed paranoid version of his opposite. Maybe that's what happened to America. Maybe that what happens to anyone who gets really sick. Its just as exciting and perplexing a story the second time around. Leonado DiCaprio is still fantastic as Hughes.

The Party

It was raining on the fireworks of fun,
lot of Asians living here
usually light up the sky
with exploding Chinese imagination
of color and sound
but after 40 days and nights of rain
cold wet windy dampness ruled New Year's night
but not in or hearts
where friends gathered
kindness was exchanged
and love blew up the dreary sky.

---
Day In The Life -- Judy and I went to a New Year's
Party at EL and MZ. I think it was the first time we were in a large crowd where people knew about my liver cancer. We both rested up all day to accumulate some energy for the event. And we had a great time. People were so straight forwardly loving, kindly and offering of practical support, it really cheered me up. We were able to stay for an hour and a half which was quite a success because we were aiming at an hour.

We will be having dinner at a friends house tonight and so another day of resting is on tap.

I thought of a weird reality. I've been really pissed off that I suffered through the Hep C chemo for a year, and I have liver cancer anyway. What a waste of time and pain. But now imagine this, suppose I didn't take the chemotherapy and still had Hep C. And then the cancer comes along. I think everyone including the doctors and me would be blaming me for not taking the chemo and claiming the cancer was my fault. Well, I took the chemo. got cured of the Hep C and nobody is blaming me for getting the cancer. Guess I'm a lucky guy after all.

A friend of mine suggests that liver illness produces anger and it would be a good thing to release it on the ocean. Problem is I love oceans. Anyone have any ideas for easy socially uncomplicated targets of rage?

Judy and I managed to be awake at midnight and watched the prerecorded ball fall on Times Square. Happy New Year!
