Gives Me Fever

Empire cracking up
minds out of control
fever and madness
guiding freedom's fantasy.
War on terror being
multi faceted
blood bathing crusade
against all gentleness
of spirit
plenty of heads and legs rock n rolling in Iraq
even New Jersey train conductors
being drafted into the secret police.
Local Washington officials horrified
denouncing barriers built for fear and loathing
blocking traffic
their city can't be evacuated
if
something besides George Bush was truly happening.

Day 231 --- Judy is going off for almost a week for a Planned Parenthood event. Friends will be staying and coming and going. Bon Voyage and safe journey Judy. Took the needle last night -- woke up several times with serious muscle cramps. Is this a new side effect? Naturally I am feverish this morning -- but I have a "so what else is new," attitude.

Rumors spread that Homeland Security has uncovered a plot of the Japanese Empire to attack Pearl Harbor. Word has it that Bush will mandate the banning of Sushi.

I watched "Valley Of The Sun," a western from the early 1940's set in the Arizona Territory. An ordinary epic except the since Lucille Ball is in it, there is a likable undertone of humor and it's shockingly ahead of its time when it comes to Indians. Bad white people steal from Indians, and good white people help them when they rebel. Believe it or not many of the Native Americans in the film are real rez Arizona Indians -- who do authentic chants and dances. Shocking!

Heavy Crust

Protecting America
from Islamic pizza
and its bakers
US Agents
peddling false Allah in Albany
claiming they talked a pizzeria owning
charity giving
Islamic extremist
and his Imam,
into offing a Pakistani diplomat.
The G-man seducer
supplying a broken down missile launcher
as pepperoni
for the plot.

The Governor boasts about the bust
and Dubya proclaims:
Mission Accomplished.
Praise the Lord
and pass the extra cheese.

Day 231---- Got an encouraging e-mail from Japan by a guy who went through the six month version of the Hep C treatment. (Mine is the 11 month variety--I have a different strain of Hep C) He understands what it's like -- and he helped me. He also sent me his novel which I will be reading and mentioning here as soon as I can get to it.
Judy took some medical tests yesterday and she passed them. Great.

We watched Grosse Pointe Blank staring John Cusak, as a professional assassin, who under the advice of a shrink attends his high school reunion ."Don't kill anyone for a few days. See how you like it." He's also in town on his usual murderous task. Looking for a date he encounters his old high school sweetheart, mutual love and animal attraction are rekindled and then the bumpy road of romance runs into a major detour. His target for murder turns out to be his girl's father. Slightly dark and mildly cynical the film is mostly funny and does communicate how matter of fact and ordinary killing for hire has become. It's just another American career.

Signing Away

Used to be
when you were inventing nuclear weapons
a loyalty oath was required signing
cause nobody wanted you selling
calculated heavy water
to Canadians.

Cheney has his own wrinkle.
If you have a hankering for presence
at his rally
he claims
the US constitution mandates a fealty oath
made out to him and Bush
maybe signed in blood.

Don't be showing up
for Republican triumphs of the will
grass roots town meetings
if you aren't enthusiastically obeying
applause signs.

Yay!

Day 230 -- Hep C fever side effects shot up to new heights last night and then went down quickly after massive ibuprofen went into my system. I'm finding it more difficult to read during the day. Its making me fall asleep. Too bad. Reading is one of the best diversions.

We watched "Isn't She Great," a Jacqueline Susann biopic. It portrays her as a failed actress rising to superstardom as a spectacularly trashy novelist. Bette Midler and Nathan Lane, play the writer and her husband agent with surprising warmth and likability. The scenes of these energetically vulgar Jews charming staid Christians in Connecticut are particularly enjoyable. Susann wasn't Hemingway or Heller, but her dreams were harmless, unlike some, she didn't want to rule the world. She just dreamed of it loving her.

We're Back

Poor anti-Semitism
so discredited after its role
in mass murder
again shines in the bright day
of hating
Abraham's other son.

Vice President
Chain Gang Cheney
was campaigning in Arizona
getting the cactus vote
when his security aids
spotted a sort of maybe Muslim sounding name
among the photo journalists snapping at his image.
What the hell is in that camera?

They demanded of her editor
"reveal her race."
Did he reply
"Go fuck yourself?"

In Memphis
a bunch of Iraqi puppets
were on state department tour
experiencing our democratic splendor.
The good Arabs were supposed to visit
with the town's world famous city council.
The white man in charge
of the sacred building
said he would close it down
before letting them in.
"You can never tell
what they may do."

Yeah, its cool to hate Semites
when you're sticking brooms
up their ass
dropping bombs on their heads.

--------

Day 229 -- Heard from old friend Tom M, who suggests a visit to the splendid Sonoran desert. Great hearing from him and we will take up his suggestion after the Hep C treatment is over and done with.

Watched Dream Catchers. It's not a movie about Native American mystics but invading extra terrestrials who look like snakes and eels with millions of big teeth that chew up humans at their most vulnerable parts. Offering a totally pointless and incoherent plot and shot in the North woods with lots of pretty snow, the film does have one major accomplishment. The aliens are so sick, I found myself rooting for the humans. That's a first.

Old News

Ridge made everyone forget
Kerry's strong convention speech
because breaking news
of hot tips
of impending terror attacks
on Prudential Life and Capitalism
plays much compelling drama
in terrific tube headlines.
Brave Bush
is still taking care of his children.

The NY Times informs us today
the sizzling stuff of dynamic paranoia
is yesterday's news
several years old
gathering dust
pre 9-11 stuff,
with no evidence that anything
sinister is now afoot
just lots of Americans with machine guns
pointing them at
a Presidential election.

----------

Day 228 -- Day time sleeping, and a bout of super stress, highlighted yesterday's Hep C news. For a while it felt like my brain waves were down. I had a nice phone conversation with Jessica. That helped.

In the few moments that my brains were working I figured out the Bush gang in the sweep of American history. They will be described as the regime that rapidly expanded and militantly defended freedom and liberty for the very rich. Restrictions on the wealthy and their economic and political activities, have dramatically declined and so have their taxes. No wonder they love Bush, he is their Che Guevara. But he not ours. For almost everyone else, restrictions, limitations, unemployment, paranoia and low wages, war and death have become the law of the land. Bush is soaking up our freedoms and giving them to the super rich. Historians will note he was Robin Hood in reverse.

We rewatched "The Big Chill," first seen in the early 80's, it features a weekend reunion of 1960's SDS type militants for purposes of attending the funeral of their old pal and former radical leader who has just mysteriously committed suicide. (My friend Phil Ochs had already taken this final step, but Abbie Hoffman was still among the living.) The ex-radicals are almost all doing quite well, including a famous TV actor and the owner of an expanding sneaker company called "Running Dog." Of course, they spend a very stoned and super sexual/musical weekend comparing the present with its past. Paradise has been lost but restored friendships and acts of kindness may be a working substitute. What amazes me about this film is the way it gets the small things right, the body language, expressions, music and dope. (I know what those post-suicide weekends can be like.) The presentation of the fallen leader's leather jacket to the gang's last rebel, a present day drug dealer, should enter the 60's icons and images history books.

Rehearsing

Body Armored Super Cops
with mighty machine guns surround
NY Stock Exchange
because
Revolutionary Right Wing Republicans
are terrifying and disrupting,
maybe canceling the election.

I met Abbie Hoffman in front of that building
in 1967
for purposes of occupying a balcony
throwing money at stock brokers
greedy to pile on each others backs
halting trade and catching dollar bills.

Millionaires were our dumb dupes.

NY Exchange responded
to Yippie theater of aggression
by building a Plexiglas wall
cutting off the balcony
from further performance.

Bush wants his gunmen
building a new wall
around the Exchange
and
all the citadels of capital
under martial law.
Rehearsing the day dream day
when money sucking vampires
will really require
an army of deadly protection.

------
Day 227--- Slept a lot of yesterday. Felt weak. Poor appetite. I did accompany Judy when she went out to buy books. Hep C treatment fever sizzled up at night. I saw a documentary saying that Columbus wasn't Italian --I dare them to make that statement in NYC on Columbus Day.

We watched Love At First Bite, a very sexy and hilarious romantic comedy about the eternally recurring Count Dracula, played this time around with dignity and absurdity by George Hamilton. Count Dracula is kicked out of Romania by the Communists because he still seems to be biting peasants and stealing their land. He shows up in NYC, where nobody seems afraid of vampires, desperately seeking the knockout fashion magazine super model who has seized his passion. My favorite film joke is Dracula with a hangover complaining that he can't be happy because "for 700 years I have had to dress like a head waiter."

Lost In Juarez

Down to the nub
of nothing much left.
Faluting isn't high anymore

Poem wasn't built in a day
eight months of sick suffering side effects,
my best friend
my doctor
says,
three to go
starting today
one day
by a day.
I have learned to feel our pain.

----------

Day 226 -- August the First, and three Hep C treatment months to go -- lots of suffering but my sentence is running short and there is someway out of here. I'll tell you about it in November. Despite my typical Saturday Fever, we went out to a movie and restaurant yesterday. Diversion from suffering is always best.

We went out to see the remake of the 1962 paranoid classic, The Manchurian Candidate. What's instructive is that the original Frank Sinatra version, made during the heights and depths of cold war, featured the world's meanest Maoists, as the cold blooded brainwashers who actually perform their perfidious tasks in Manchuria. In the current Denzel Washington opus "Manchuria" is the name of a greed soaked global capitalist outfit that closely resembles the Bush family's Carlyle Group. Our brain washing "rule the world" enemies and dark conspirators are no longer Manchurians, they are home grown American monsters Have we finally woken up to the truth?
