Sentimental

Justice Department officials
are putting together
a
shopping list of new laws
designed
to
make the Constitution irrelevant.
Stuff
about stripping citizenship
from people
who support
no-no organizations.
Stuff
about making
the
Homeland Ministry of Truth
exempt from FOIA requests.
And:
Stuff
about removing all negotiated restrictions
on local cops
hiding under your bed.

Seems
the current
police state
Patriot Act
is
too weak
and
too cursed
with
Constitutional residues
of
fairness and freedom
insufficiently fascist
and
overly sentimental
about
American dreams.

Morning Prayer

Ashcroft is trying to make executions more popular.
They hardly ever happen
in
New York and Connecticut.
He's over ruling federal prosecutors
who recommend life sentences.
(happened a dozen times)
Hang'em High
is his morning prayer.

He over ruled
a plea bargain
that
traded life for squealing
on
drug king pins.
Guess the AG has some sympathy
for these
drug devils
who also enjoy
executing their enemies.

Ashcroft figures
if east coast executions
become common,
official killing will become popular,
like pro-wrestling
reality TV
pornography
or
FOX News.

Legal murder
has a lot going for it.
Real people really getting killed.
Protest demonstrations.
Families of crime victims.
Families of the doomed.
Massive media interest
and
best of all,
it's
very
low budget.

All's fair.

I was on a call-in radio show
this morning.
Someone proposed a debate
between
Noam Chomsky and George "Dubya" Bush
I was against it.
Said it wasn't fair.
Chomsky is really smart
and
Bush is really stupid.
Let's find the dumbest person we know
who opposes the war
and
have him (or her)
challenge Bush.

Just because
Cheney is a bully,
doesn't mean
we have
to
copy him.

Hound Of the Bushvilles

Powell said
the
UN inspectors
weren't supposed
to be detectives.
Does
he even know
what that means?
Inspectors do detect.
So far,
they've detected almost nothing
worth a sweat.

Powell said
he's got
lots of evidence
that
Saddam
has some horrible stuff.
Powell believes
that
makes it OK
to
annihilate
Baghdad.
How about the inspectors
checking out
Powell's evidence?
And
If they really find something bad and ugly
press
delete,
press
disarm.

If Powell
isn't calling soccer fields
missiles sites
let the UN inspector-detectives
be
his
moral alternative.
Let them be ours.

Must Get Stoned

Ed Rosenthal
grows marijuana.
He was busted by the Feds
and
then
convicted for his crime.
The trial took place in California
and the jury
wasn't allowed to hear something real important.
Rosenthal's pot
was legal weed.
He grew it
in
California
for medical purposes.
California law calls
it legit.
Only Ashcroft law
calls it a crime.

Six jurors
have apologized to Rosenthal
"Never would have convicted him
knowing it was medical."

A friend of mine,
bold Anita Hoffman
dying of cancer
breast and bone
had a few laughs with friends
was able to eat a bit of matzo
sleep a bit of sleep
philosophize at times,
because she smoked
much medical Mary Jane.
I met
and
thanked
the
growers of
her grass.
Kind souls
they are developing
different strains
for
different pains.
Ashcroft would arrest them
and
imprison them
for their kindness.
Ashcroft
is the kind of right-wing Christian
that
believes
life is about suffering
not getting high
not having a few laughs
enjoying friends,
even the dying,
even for a few minutes,
are not freed
from his
curse of pain.

Stevenson's Standard

Poor
Colin Powell.
They are holding him
to
the
Adlai Stevenson standard.
When Adlai spoke to the UN
(in the Fall, of 1962)
he nailed the Russian Ambassador
to
the
double cross of his own dishonesty.
The Russians did too have nuke missiles
in Cuba
and
Stevenson's unscripted golden tongue
told the tale.
When the Ruskies tried to stall for time
to explain their explanation,
Stevenson declared
"I can wait sir, I can wait till Hell freezes over."

Hell did not freeze.
Nor did we burn.
The world lived
on the
brink
of
brinks
and then made a deal.
Red missiles out of Cuba
Imperialist missiles out of Turkey
No Yanqui invasion
of
Castro's Cuba

Even while
he was kicking
verbal ass
at the UN,
Stevenson
was
a
person of peace.
JFK's 'Irish Mafia"
was handsomer, younger, funnier
and
a billion times brighter smiling
and
smart
than
a burning Bush Junta
of
scowls
and
war.
Powell is peddling his hips
for these
power punks
and
for blood and conquest.
No, he can't "pull a Stevenson."
He doesn't have a JFK,
watching his back,
ironic eyes
filled
by
pain and destiny.

Portrait

Bush coming out of Church
looked like
he was being
thrown out
of
a
saloon.
Scowling angry.
Feeling wronged
by God.
Like he needed
a technological catastrophe
before launching
a technological war.

A copy of
Picasso's Guernica
is seen
at the entrance
of
the UN Security Council
showing
mangled dying
victims of war.

During their civil war
against fascism
the Spaniards
were the first
to suffer a town destroying bombing raid.
(Courtesy of Nazi-airforce efficiency)
and
Picasso's canvas
made it immortal,
never forget Hell.

Colin Powell
found it embarrassing
giving his UN
"War is peace" --press conferences
in front of Guernica.
Mixing metaphors
and
unintentional satire.

Guernica has just
been covered
by a curtain.
(Is it iron?)
and now Powell
and his pals,
can call
their warriors "peacekeepers"
and nobody
will be
confused
or
amused.
Hell forgotten.

Nelson (Rocky) Rockefeller
gave this Guernica copy
to
the UN
in 1985.
In the 30's
Rockefeller
commissioned
Rivera,
to a do a mural
in New York City.
Rocky didn't like its
Red politics
so he
paid the painter
and
destroyed his painting.

They didn't destroy
Picaso's work
they covered it,
no point,
it's only a copy.

Fortune In Men's Eyes

Is there some sort of hard luck
connected to George Bush?
In his reign:
The Twin Towers explodes
and
democracy declines
and
the first Israeli in outer space
burns up
over
Texas.
Poor guy.
He had better luck
when he bombed
Saddams's nuclear reactor.
He told his brother
that driving a car in Israel
is more dangerous than space travel.
He was right.
Are we
cursed
by association
with Dubya?

Bush has
a bullies luck.
When he gains
everyone else
loses.
His wealth makes you poorer.
His power makes you weaker.
His fame makes you anonymous.
His religion makes you an atheist.
His thirst drains your soul.

How will
war with Iraq
play out?
It will make you
poorer
weaker
and
soulless.
Think of the coming funerals
for that sad crew
as
your
very own.
Mourn your own misfortune
to have lived
under
Texas rules!
